Plasmapheresis

 Plasmapheresis

- Souti Das

In this experiment, the dog is rendered hypoproteinaemic by repeatedly withdrawing whole blood and injecting back the cellular elements of the blood (suspended in Ringer-Locke solution). This process is repeated daily till the level of plasma proteins fails to 4g/100 ml. Thereafter different standard diets are given and their effects on protein synthesis are studied. Following conclusions have been drawn from this experiment:

Dietary proteins are essential for synthesis of plasma proteins.

Chemical resemblance of food protein amino acid with those of the plasma proteins to be synthesized determines their efficacy to synthesize a particular protein.

Essential amino acid must be present in the diet for the satisfactory synthesis of plasma proteins.

Dietary proteins of animal origin favours albumin synthesis.

Dietary proteins of plant origin favours globulin synthesis.

Regeneration of plasma proteins occurs within 14 days.

Rate of regeneration of plasma protein is very fast within first 24 hours.

INTRODUCTION TO RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY(RDT) WITH ITS STEP AND APPLICATION

INTRODUCTION TO RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY(RDT) - Devlina Sarkar v What is Recombinant DNA technology ? RDT is a series of procedures that is used to join together (recombine) DNA segments from different organisms and inserting it into a host organism to produce new genetic combinations. v What is called Recombinant DNA ? Recombinant DNA (rDNA) is   m olecules  of  DNA  from two different species that are inserted into a host organism to produce new genetic combinations that are of value to science, medicine, agriculture, and industry. Recombinant DNA in a living organism was first achieved in 1973 by  Herbert Boyer , of the University of California at San Francisco, and  Stanley Cohen , at Stanford University , who used   E. coli  restriction enzymes to insert foreign DNA into plasmids. v What is the basic use of RDT? Using RDT we can get a huge no of copies/clones of a particular gene or DNA(cloning) by usi...

COVID 19 - A brief details about COVID-19 , HISTORY, STRUCTURE, MODE OF TRANSMISSION, MODE OF ACTION and SYMPTOMS

COVID-19 - Eishika Das,  -Soumyaprabha Ganguly HISTORY:  Coronavirus disease 2019  ( COVID-19 ) is an  infectious disease  caused by  severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2  (SARS-CoV-2) The disease was first identified in 2019 in  Wuhan , the capital of  Hubei , China, and has since spread globally, resulting in the  2019–20 coronavirus pandemic . According to the World Health Organization (WHO), viral diseases continue to emerge and represent a serious issue to public health. In the last twenty years, several viral epidemics such as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) in 2002 to 2003 beginning in China and involving two dozen countries with approximately 8000 cases and 800 deaths , and H1N1 influenza in 2009, have been recorded. Most recently, the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012 approximately 2,500 cases and 800...
